Antarctica compared to the size of the US.

  1. So, when a chuck of ice shelf 1/x the size of Rhode Island breaks off, it's a lot but not really. Things are so very relative. Like, is 10 tons of CO2 a terribly large amount, or not much at all? Compared to what? Comparisons like this do put things into perspective.

  2. Antarctica is significantly bigger than the Continental US - hard to tell with Mercator projections, though. It looks as if the super-volcano there is experiencing some earthquake signs, potentially signalling it's coming out of dormancy.

  3. Well then, that would put the South Pole somewhere west of Omaha wouldn't it.
