Daniel in the Lion’s Den (1857) - Horace Vernet

This bit really captures the wild-eyed Lion attitude.

  1. Close to how I imagined this when I was a child, and even now at 61, I think it captures the biblical story in an almost stunning manner. Who is the painting by, do you know?

  2. What an incredible art work! Western Civilization at its peak.

  3. I wouldn't call those wild eyes. They are intensely intelligent eyes. A reflection of the hand that painted them. Look at the definition and detail of the lion's fur painted with oils. When and why did humanity go from this to the drek we call art today?

  4. Daniel looks a bit young, he would have been somewhere around 70+ when thrown in the den.
