And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

World's most Beautiful Approach? Airbus Visual Approach in Rio
I always enjoy the approach to Quito airport. First there is the active volcano spewing ash over the city, you can see right down into the burning caldera. Then there is the final approach to the runway over the main street. Dusk is the best time to experience the landing. Two miles above sea level and a short runway means the touchdown needs to quite precise. The old Hong Kong runway was like that, the last time I was there it was a golf driving range. I'm glad to have done my traveling already, I think those days are ending.
Yeah. I spent 14 years south of the Rio Grande, usually flying out of Buenos Aires. I would like to head back to Peru for a few months, but with all this COVID nonsense that seems highly unlikely.
Question : What's the best way to see Rio de Janeiro ?
ReplyDeleteAnswer : From the air, on your way to someplace else.
True that. Been there many times. Outside of Leblon, Copacabana and a few other places, it is a violent, filthy shit-hole. Sao Paulo is worse.
DeleteQuestion: what's the best way to experience commercial air flight these days?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: on the internet.
While shorter in time, the last 40 or so seconds of the northern approach to Reagan National is pretty good too.

DeleteI've flown that. After a day in the air... You don't appreciate it as you should.
