Flamingoes congregating just off shore

  1. Glad I saw the title. For a minute I thought it was a "Code-Pink" surf meet at Big Sur.

    1. Good Lord, imagine what THAT would look like at ground level...ugh.

  2. Let's see if I got this right: the mud slide deposited a higher concentration of minerals and loosened decayed vegetation and soil critters into the water. Planktonic sea creatures found it to be rich feeding grounds. Larger animals moved in...voila a congregation of flamingos.

    1. You pretty well got it except for the mud slide. That's a delta, formed over eons by silt brought down by the river. Check out some big ones like the Amazon, Mississippi and the Nile.

  3. They used to come in every spring when I was working in Tunisia, feeding on those tiny shrimp that give them the pink color. I wonder if this is on the Med Sea somewhere.
