And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Look for the little brown triangles, dead center screen. Forms an "S" shape. Killed one last year right next to my back porch. Lights on at night pulls in bugs, often pulling in frogs/toads, infrequently pulling in copperheads.
The vet has an anti-venom vaccine now for dogs, covers pit vipers like rattlers and copperheads. Initial plus booster a month later. My poochies get the first lick next week.
In the center of the screen, there is a lighter green leaf pointing from about 5 o'clock to 11 o'clock. The snake is just to the left of that leaf kinda curled up. It's head is below the leaf and pointing to about 8 o'clock. Damn hard to see, I also had to blow up the pic on my iPad to see it. Careful when you walk in leaf litter like this!
Last year, we took a picture of a rattlesnake we'd walked by a half dozen times setting up a game camera. Scary good camouflage & they don't always rattle. No where near as good as Charlie the Copperhead up there in the picture, but I've seen hundreds & the light exposure in this image aids in the deception. Of course if you're walking the woods this time of year the best thing to do is make a lot of noise. They're all pissed off.
And don't feel bad- somebody doctored the contrast on this image. Copperheads are much darker than that. All twelve I have pictures of, that I took, are nowhere near that light of a tan color
Wow, this one was tough to find. But I did find it.
This reminds me of a time my brother came to visit. We were walking through an area that looked very much like this. I was telling him to watch for snakes. I was lead then turned around to see why he had stopped. He was pointing to the ground I had just walked over. Me and my big mouth, I had walked right over the snake. Fortunately it wasn't a rattler.
SOB! If that thing is poisonous, I'd never go trail walking again.
ReplyDeleteAny idea what it is?
Jerry
Jerry, that's a copperhead. They are venomous, although the venom is not as toxic as other snakes. Which is not a lot of comfort.
ReplyDeleteAll we seem to have is garter snakes. Unless some idiot releases/escaped their exotic. Thanks Grog.
DeleteJerry
I can't find it. usually I'm good with these things, but this one I'm not seeing.
ReplyDeleteI give up. I'm good a spotting snakes in the grass, but dead leaves not so much.
ReplyDeleteme no see
ReplyDeleteHad to save it to my computer, do some funkiness with paint shop pro, then enlarge it to find it
ReplyDeleteTook a while, dead center of screen.
ReplyDeleteFound it, don't like it!
ReplyDeleteOK, I can see what looks like about 2 inches of it, just to the left of the bright green leaf. Still cannot make out the whole thing.

I don't guess you can post pictures on here?
ReplyDeleteIt was a picture of Ricky Rattlesnake you couldn't find in the leaves, so just use your imagination.
Damn....I am blind and dead at this rate!
