    2. The one pictured above measured 54". It is an average size adult rattlesnake in central AL.

  3. appears to be a timber rattlesnake from looking at the head and coloration - not very aggressive, usually, but a very venomous bite which has been fatal to humans.

    1. Northwestern rattlers (Crotalis viridis oreganus)are fairly aggressive, and I got slashed by a fang once (thank God he didn't actually sink them in). Enough to put me in the hospital over night. Eleven units of anti venom serum stopped the progression of swelling. I was back to work two days later.
