And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

This, all by itself, is reason enough to visit St. Petersburg
The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, SanPetersburg, Russia was built on the place where Tsar Alexander II of Russia was killed, victim of an attack on March 13, 1881.
I've been there as well. When you visit Russia and St. Petersburg especially you will discover they will build a church about anywhere anything happened. No pews at all in them because Russian Orthodox services have people stand the whole time, I thought the furniture was removed for tours the first time I went in until the guide explained.
Been there.
ReplyDeletePictures do not do it justice.
Magnificent
ReplyDeleteIt is such a pity that this Czar, who was the best of the bunch got killed. Who know maybe there might of been no Revolution?
