And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Flic #2 is especially good. Pilots are hell busting for election to get airborne. Once heard a veteran P-51 pilot sum up his generations attitude; give a studly 20-22 year old a +400MPH aircraft, eight .50 caliber machine guns and encourage them to go forth and raise hell. Extrapolate such attitude to a newer generation schooled by older but still s**t-hot veterans. That's the guys taxiing those F-86's.
They were beautiful planes, weren't they?

Because they're paid to fly, not taxi. Besides, "Time is fuel and fuel is time."
DeleteCan you believe the unbelievable accomplishment of the P-51 and the F-86 coming from the same company, almost back to back....
ReplyDeleteThen you give those pilots a plane that flys in excess of 500 mph machine guns and no adult supervision. What could go wrong
ReplyDeleteThey were kept in check by one simple sentence from the squadron CO. "You screw this up and you'll never fly again.".
DeleteMy Dad built F-86's back in the day. He loved it.
ReplyDeleteSaw one fly at the Oshkosh air show. very impressive!
