And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

There's always that one guy who will screw things up in the dumbest possible way
Old Allis News had a quote from an Allis Chalmers engineer that stated "some guys can break an anvil with a feather". From years of repair and welding business experience, I can attest to the truth of that.
We used to joke that you could put an infantry private in a locked room with three bowling balls and, within an hour, one would be broken, one would be lost and the third would be pregnant.
Reminds me of a job 25 years ago at Boeing. We had a system with 3 racks of gear that was all custom and very expensive, probably about $5-10 million. There was a big red button in the top middle clearly labeled as emergency shutdown. Some comedian made a placard on a chain and hung it on this switch. The placard read “Turbo Mode”. Yes, we laughed.

ReplyDeleteMy version of this is "Could break an anvil in a sandbox and lose one of the pieces."

DeleteJoe... please... remove your finger from that button.
ReplyDeleteAKA: the Biden Button
DeleteWhat does this button do? Worked with a guy who pressed the red button, he got soaked by diesel fuel.
