  1. One of my long term memories is winter camping with the Boy Scouts back in the 80s at Mammoth. A Scout broke a stick for the morning fire and an entire field of hoarfrost crystals just shattered in the early morning light. It was ethereal. EdC

  2. I spent my morning in my swamp watching the Wood ducks & swatting mosquitos. No snow in the forecast.

  4. Thanks for the elevation. I'm always curious about that.
Boy, is that a perfect avalanche bowl and path on the face of Shastina, or what?

    1. So good it looks like the avalanches have cleared the trees a significant way down the gully. I had a post a while back that had pictures of the remains of an avalanche on Shasta. Good snow start to the year, for sure.

    2. It's always a great sign when the Sierra ski resorts have enough natural snow to open on Thanksgiving. And we've been getting hardly anything compared to what you've been getting up north. Nice!
