There's lots of fancy flashlights out there, but only one Maglite.

  1. Have mine from 44 years ago, it's finding the bulb for it that's the issue.

    1. Probably won't find the Xenon or Krypton bulbs anymore, but you can get an LED replacement for around $10.00. - brighter, and batteries last longer.

    2. My local TrueValue hardware store carries them. They're easy to overlook as the packages are so tiny.

  2. I got an LED adapter for my 3 cell Maglite and some adapters so I could use 3 AA batts in place of each D cell battery.
These days I always have AA batteries around.

  3. Maybe I’ll suggest it as a Christmas gift for my wife’s bf

  4. Well, there WAS the Kel-Lite, which maglight shamelessly copied...

    1. They did a good job as I've never heard of Kel-Light.

    2. >>manufactured Kel-Lite flashlights in southern California until 1983, when the company was merged into Streamlight.<<
      Streamlight I'm familiar with...

    3. Kel-Lite was the original black police flashlight. I've still got mine and still use it. Thicker aluminum than the mag lite and a better switch.

  5. I prefer the three D-cell MagLites, as they double as a club so nicely.

  6. The issue is the electronics draws current while it's off: 0.5mA (measured, sample of one, 65° F).

With alkaline batteries having such a long shelf life, if your flashlight is rarely used then it will slowly drain the battery just sitting there and you could be disappointed when its needed.

The manual even says to remove the batteries if you don't use it more than once a month.
You can unscrew the back a turn and it will disconnect but then it loses the waterproofing and this will confuse people who don't know about it or during an emergency.

Would not recommend for uses such as sitting in the glovebox of a car or clipped to the wall in a garage unless you are good about replacing batteries.

  7. I just changed the bulbs in mine to a two-brightness LED that some magician made work with the Maglite's original switch. You can change between about 55 lumens and about 500 lumens with a simple press of the button.

  8. Finally a quality item made in USA. I think CW may forget his target audience. We are not interested in Chinese made junk.

  9. Like so many others here, my 3D Maglite survived a 40 year career. Very few other products can say that. I did install an LED bulb a few years back, and the LED is OK at best. But still works like a champ.
