I wonder if that tree is still there.

A horse-drawn cart passing through a section cut out of the base of a giant sequoia tree, California, 1879.

The giant sequoia is estimated to have been 2,300 years old.

  2. My grandfather retired in 1967, bought an RV, and they began a driving tour of north America. Somewhere I have a photograph of them standing in that tree tunnel with their RV sitting in the bypass since it wouldn't fit through the gap. They took photographs in 49 states, all of the southern provinces of Canada, and northern states of Mexico, all in two-year long year-long vacation. If there was somewhere they wanted to go, they went. If there was something they wanted to see, they would stop and see it. If the scenery was impressive and the campground neighbors friendly, they'd stay an additional night, simply because they could.
