And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I wonder if that tree is still there.

My grandfather retired in 1967, bought an RV, and they began a driving tour of north America. Somewhere I have a photograph of them standing in that tree tunnel with their RV sitting in the bypass since it wouldn't fit through the gap. They took photographs in 49 states, all of the southern provinces of Canada, and northern states of Mexico, all in two-year long year-long vacation. If there was somewhere they wanted to go, they went. If there was something they wanted to see, they would stop and see it. If the scenery was impressive and the campground neighbors friendly, they'd stay an additional night, simply because they could.
