  2. 1970? Ford Maverick. I haven't seen one in eons, they've all rusted away around here.

  6. The Maverick had the right layout, space for a V8, rear wheel drive, and the body proportions were ponycar-ish. It coulda been a contender. But wasn't. Most of the ones I saw were 4-door, the 2-door versions were more rare. It hit around the same time that smog controls smothered the engines of the big 3, so never really had any get-up-and-go to them without lots of shade tree mechanic tinkering. And quality control was very hit or miss, but to be fair that's the case with all the cars in the 60's and 70's, we just idolize the 60's models more.

    1. Ford still had performance engines in '71. Think they went away in mid-year. My oem '71 'stang made more than 500 hp.
