Surfing Sunday Smile

  1. Wow! Memories. I didn't carry a surf board on my '72 yellow beetle, but since I was a paddle rat so my aluminum Grumman canoe sat atop the bug and sweet Debbie, who this young lady resembles sat in the passenger seat as we made our way down Rte-80 from Bergen County NJ out to lake Hopatcong or further to the Delaware river. I had to be careful of the crosswinds, however.

  2. In 1976 I had the duty at CG Light Station Point Robinson on Maury Island in Puget Sound (Washington state) one day and a VW bug drove in, went past the parking lot down towards the boat ramp (with tracks for launching the boat in to old days).
He had fiberglass kayak on top of his bug, it was longer than the car.
I went down to see what he was doing... He an a couple of buddies had rented an ocean going kayak mold from REI and had built 3 kayaks, they were planning on going up the inland passage to Alaska when the weather turned better. He had just finished (almost) his and wanted to try it out.
He took it off the bug, put it in the water and off he went! Zipped around for awhile then put it back on his bug and left.

  5. I was born in 1951 and that doesn't change the probable fact that that attractive young woman probably was not born in 2011

  6. The label on the board seems to indicate or infer that it is a current production item, probably cost ~Euro 600.
