Oh, yeah

  1. ‘70 Barracuda? A friend in high school had one with the 440. He rebuilt most of it himself. He replaced nearly every major part on the car, except the tie rods. It ended about how you’d expect. I think the remains of the thing have been sitting in a barn since 1989.

  2. In 79 as a high school senior I had a 71 Cuda with a 440, 4-speed, 4:10 limited slip rear. It was a base model car that had no options outside the drivetrain. It had over 100K miles on it when I got it but new tires, brakes, shocks, battery, hoses, coolant, and tune up kit got it running. It got 9 mpg no matter how you drove it. When gas jumped from 50 cents a gallon to 79 cents a gallon I could no longer afford to drive the car and I had to sell it. That was a stupid move. I should have parked it in the barn and put it up for long term storage. After all of the parts, I had less than $5k tied up in the car.
