And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I'm reminded, I believe a back channel negotiation, c.WW1, between governments involving an exchange of a large sum of money, the medium being "Mexican silver".
When I was born in 1953 my grandpa when looking for a $5 gold piece but was not able to find one, he used five 1921 silver dollars instead. They are in a wood framed case he made so if I ever really needed "real money" I'd have some. He'd been in San Fran during the 1906 earthquake, afterwards the ferries leaving San Francisco would not take paper money, it had to be gold or sliver.

He was also a depression survivor. Wonder what he'd think of today's financial shenanigans.

DeleteExactly what type of US coins are those? Several comments here have mentioned silver, but these appear to be gold. I’d love to know what they are!
