And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Why don't people wear cool capes like that anymore?
First I thought that must be the Coneheads' home world because of the rider's head. But the parallel between Remulak and this place, or between the rider and the reader is "too much LDS in the '60s" - to quote Captain Kirk from Star Trek IV. I think.
++++ Fantastic artist! To any who aren't familiar, I would highly recommend searching out Moebius' whole body of work. Amazing stuff and a very large influence on many of todays (the last 40 years) illustrators and comic artists.
To wear a cool cape, you have to have cool birds, dragons, carpets or other such conveyance.

ReplyDeleteBingo. A French illustrator created the series late 80's early 90's and the pins and T-shirts are still sought after.

DeletePeople don't wear capes for the same reason they don't have to wear their underwear over their pants anymore- Chuck Norris told them not to.
ReplyDeletepeople (guys) used to wear capes and use them to ensnare an opponent's sword strike
ReplyDeleteCapes get caught in machinery, car doors, even your office chair.
ReplyDeleteEdna Mode: "No Capes!" She knew the consequences...
