    1. Graf Spee wasn't a battleship. She was a cruiser and not the lead of her class.

  4. Each seems to be the lead ship of her battleship class. Some like the Nassau built before WWI.
    Graf Spee was a battle-cruiser.

    1. That's not a class. It's what the British called her I think. She was a heavily armored battle-cruiser.

  6. König Albert is a Kaiser-class battleship. If what was intended was the chronological listing of the name ship of German battleship classes, Helgoland should be listed in place of König Albert.

  8. Hit in the rudder and circled helplessly while being bombarded, an ignoble death for a great ship.

    3. I've always wondered about the Germans decision to send the Bismark out almost alone. What their calculation of 'risk' was as to the threat from British Aircraft Carriers of that point in time? Were they so confidant that the Swordfish would be unable to harm the ship?
      They were close to right.
