And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Unless you live in the countries of and around India, you won't be much bothered by the Dinopium benghalense. It is "black-rumped flameback" to twitchers, and has also been called "Bengall Woodpecker" and "Spotted Indian Woodpecker."
There's a pileated woodpecker who took up residence in a narrow strip of woods about 30 yards from my home about a year or so ago. It's big, bigger than a crow. I hear it hammering from time to time and calling in that inimitable call they have.
Very cool woodpecker!

DeleteThat is a colorful bird!
ReplyDeleteI throw out peanuts for the squirrels and chipmunks, and a pair of rose breasted woodpeckers decided to invite themselves to the buffet.
