Walter Sanders, Rolleiflex Factory, May, 1949. The Rolleiflex my dad bought, and that I still have might be on that table.

  1. Looks like all the Rosie the Riveters have gone home.

  2. I was seriously in love with those cameras back in the film days. The only 120/220 TLR I ever could swing was a Yashica. The Yashica was nowhere near as good, but 2-1/4" square slides are a thing to behold. To hold one next to a 35mm slide is mind-blowing.

  4. One heck of a camera way back when. I had to settle for an Agfa in 2 1/4" square format. It was good, but not quite as good as a Rolleiflex.

SiGraybeard, you are right about the 2 1/4" slides. They were much better negatives too if you were printing enlargements.

  5. I have the exact same from my dad, should check the S/N for date of production, likely 49 to 52

  7. How long has it been since there has been an assembly shop for small items like cameras that is A) staffed by men (since women tend to be a bit better at finicky work like that), and B) staffed by men wearing jacket and tie?

  8. When I worked as a medical photographer in college, 2 1/4 square was small format. Most of the printing was done by 4x5 negs. I was lucky to find a mint condition Dentist Class F2AS Nikon and 50mm F1.2 this summer and have been shooting some Ilford HP5. Unfortunately the local industrial class processing service in this area over souped the negs and shifted the HP5 into the super contrasty range. It looks like if I continue to shoot film I'll have to soup my own. BTW I bought my special snowflake a Yashica Mat124 TLR. She wanted the 'blad but I wouldn't give it to her.
