And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I'm spending the 4th of July at the furthest points of the U.S. each year. East Quoddy Head is next year. I spent the 4th this year in Barrow (Utqiagvik) Alaska. Not much going on there. At least Maine will have beer.
Want an interesting read, “Fifty Years Below Zero” by Charles Brower. His adventures along the Alaskan coast searching for coal to fuel steamships to fetch the otter pelts. Eye opening native customs pre-missionaries (it was an honor for the guest to sleep with the host’s female) Sez, 1st ANGLICO
If you follow US Route 1 North you will end up at Madawaska Four Corners Park. Rt 1 continues but that is the Northernmost point on Rt 1. http://www.madawaskafourcorners.org/

ReplyDeleteAlaska not on north american continent?
DeleteSays Continental U.S.A.

I've sat drunk on that wall. Didn't fall in.
DeleteIt is a neat spot...too bad Key West has been taken over by the alphabet soup people.
ReplyDeleteI've stood on the Westernmost point of the contiguous United States, Cape Alava.
ReplyDeleteActually that's Neah Bay, WA.
Deletesamoore is correct. Neah Bay is the westernmost town on the US mainland. Cape Alava is the westernmost point on the US mainland.
DeleteWords have meaning. Thank you.
DeleteNot true. The southernmost point would have to be on the seawall near the marker.
ReplyDeleteI did the US Four Corner ride and Blaine, WA might be the right spot.
ReplyDeleteNorthwest Angle in MN. Access, by land, through Canada.

Easternmost point is East Quoddy Head, Lubec, Maine. (I have a great photo of it but can't figure out how to attach it.)

DeleteActually the easternmost point is West Quoddy Head, believe it or not. East Quoddy is in Canada.
DeleteSay hi to the Lubec Brewing Co, easternmost brewery in the US. Was just there last May…
ReplyDeleteIn Biden's America it would be Beijing

DeleteI wouldn't want to go at the most southern point. Too many 🌀 and too hot. Northern most is waaaaay too cold. I will just stay right here

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that the northern most point of the continental United States is either the NW Angle in MN or Maine.
ReplyDeleteI was stationed at NAS Key West from 1966 to 68. Looking at Google Earth now, Wow, has it changed.
