Humboldt County Emergency Services tweeted the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck earlier this morning has caused "widespread damages to roads and homes are reported throughout" the area.

 Story here.

According to poweroutage.us, which tracks outages across the country, over 55,000 people in Humboldt are without power.

This guy's report is what people usually experience in an earthquake this size.

More than 40 aftershocks measuring more than 2.5 magnitude have continued to rattle Northern California following the early morning quake, the USGS reported. More than 20 registered higher than 3.0 magnitude.

Rock on!  Hopefully this shaking releases pent up energy and prevents an even bigger quake.

  2. I remember how exhausting it was after the '89 Loma Prieta quake. Aftershocks went on for months.

  3. Nope. It just shifts the stress to other parts of the fault.

Plate tectonics is relentless like that.

    1. Ignoring that that's about as scientific as the Democommunist congressweasel that thought Guam would tip over from all the military bases on it, how 'bout if we sent all your libtard kinfolk back home where they came from first? Would that be okay too? I'll take the lumps for the homegrown idiots, if all y'all just own up and take back your share of the 20 million that came here from everywhere else in the last 30 years.
      Fair is fair.

    3. Aesop I couldn't agree more. Calif was perfect until easterners, hippies and illegals poured in during the space and computer booms.

I feel sorry for your old lady, if you have one.

  5. Humboldt County is where they grow all the illegal weed. Legal weed costs twice as much in California.
