  1. The extremely wealthy Romans lived well. Most Romans did not live like this.

  2. Looks like another contractor who couldn’t lay a flat tile floor. Some things never change.

  4. This shows how the people of Pompeii lived, not Romans.

    1. The people of Pompeii were Romans, except for slaves and freedmen, and a sprinkling of foreigners.

  5. All that wealth meant nothing as the family suffocated just like their slaves.

  6. They found flush toilets even where workers lived, some on the second floor, no less. First world civilization fell along with the Romans. Long time recovering...

  7. Those Houses and Buildings in the old part f Pompeii are so well-preserved because they were filled with Volcanic Ash over a period of Weeks as the Eruption went on. The initial Explosion of the Volcano put out clouds of Hydrogen Sulfide Gas, killing everyone still there. Places like this, when being cleaned up, often have the Bodies of the Residents in the Basements. They get put in the Old Cemetery, that also has been excavated.

    1. Actually, they mainly have ash molds of the bodies. They fill the molds with plaster to get a representation.
2000 years later, there's nothing much to bury but bones and woolen clothing fragments.
