And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Can You Move in Armor? The range of motion possible in medieval armor is impressive.
Yep. Convertible suits had ass and back of leg protection that could be removed.
On the other hand, when fighting in a line, one's ass or back of legs is well protected by the soldier on either side. So war armor often left off ass and back-of-leg armor.
Now, tourney armor designed for individual foot combat did have ass and whole leg armor. It was specialized. Just like jousting armor was specialized to resist the lance and the forces transferred.
Further, his stealth skills were such that he could sneak within 30 leagues of a stuffed and mounted moose before his harness clanking woke the vigilant beast. Sadly, being French, he surrendered upon meeting any English or Germans in open field battle rather than tourney, but made up for this seeming lack by shagging their women crosseyed whilst their husbands were at the front capturing more Frenchmen.
To be fair, that whole cheese-eating-surrender-monkey thing came about after the French got rid of the Monarchy. Nothing wrong with French soldiers from the times of Charles Martel to the time of Louis XVI. Nothing at all.
Yes, I admit the Frogs were once mighty men of valour, probably still some left amongst them today. Paternal Granny was French, and Mum was from Huguenot stock, so I am not throwing stones from outside the glass house. The soldiers were good even up to 1918, after which they seem to have taken a breather. No bad regiments, only bad colonels, as the corsican once said...
Armor is a business suit combined with an athletic suit. You have to be able to move. Properly fitted, you basically just wear it.
Though it does take some training to be able to move correctly. But not as much training as most people think. More like how to move in a firefighter's outfit without the airpack.
That was impressive, and it also shows the value of vigorous training.
ReplyDeleteTrain hard, fight easy.

Move thanks to lots of 3 in 1 oil.

No butt or back of leg protection. Could be bad in a hand to hand melee.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that, thinking that particular suit was designed for cavalry warfare, do the horse provided the protection there.
