  5. Watch her performance of Ball and Chain at Monterey Pop 1967. Cass Eliot is in the audience and is completely gobsmacked.
Always liked Janis' blues...Summertime, Bye Bye Baby, Turtle Blues, etc.

  9. She is likely the best example of how the drugs of her era negatively impacted the senses of sight and sound.

  10. Had a college roommate whose older brother had gone to a Joplin concert a few years before, he said she came out with a bottle of whiskey under each arm - apparently how she fine tuned her voice.

  12. saw her at La Cave, University Circle, Cleveland- had no idea who she was and didn't get wise to having seen her until years later. I was in Junior High School. Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart at a teen club in Chesterland. Jimi opening for the Monkees/The Who for Herman's Hermits, Public Hall. The Who played a pal's Winter Dance in Scotch Plains, NJ. I got pics.

  13. I met her when I was 14 years old. Just for a couple minutes in the place where the band would practice out in San Geronimo. Two years later, on my first date, I went to see her in San Francisco, I struggled my way through the crowd to get to the stage to give her a wire peace symbol I'd made for her that day in school. She reached down to take it from me and said, "Thank you, nines." She remembered me after two years. She was sweet and gracious and loving, and a monster good and strong performer. I'll love her forever.

  15. A genius, and a great singer. Her 'Summertime' is a pure joy. She did not know herself what a great artist she was. Her raw voice is that of her very soul. A great loss. . . She was too weak to bear up under the weight of fame.

Mama Cass, too, left us far too soon.
