  2. Bing Russell had a bit part in it as a radio operator - Kurt Russell's dad. Also, music by, you didn't guess it, Henry Mancini, who wrote the Pink Panther theme among others.

Funny how the movie was premised on an undiscovered mysterious volcano on Antarctica, and lo and behold, decades later, scientists are studying a heat anomaly that leads them to discover an active (underground) volcano on Antarctica. It's the Star Trek syndrome. Somebody imagines it and BAM! Screenwriters have great powers.
