And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Older people are never tempted to do something like this. They know.
Having watched many Roadrunner/While E. Coyote cartoons as a youth, the likelihood of a large Acme Anvil ensconced inside the pile of straw, is very high.
This is from a video where some guys are testing if it were to possible to recreate a jump done by a video game character in the game "Assassins Creed". If you want the full video you can find it at https://youtu.be/kKLMHsDQzYA
When I was a kid we'd jump out of the haymow to the straw on the floor of the barn, or into a big pile of soybeans or corn. After one of us found the proverbial pitchfork (not seriously hurt, just stitches and a good asswhippin for getting hurt) we learned to look before leaping.
It’s simply the calculus of upside vs. downside. I see no significant gain and the failure potential gets explained in an obituary.

ReplyDeleteDon't tempt fate.
ReplyDeleteJust one certain piece of straw, at just the right angle...
