    While printed in the USA, the currency is CDN$

    When issued the "Colony of Newfoundland" had a "Responsible Government" administration under the Canadian umbrella.

    Right about this 1890's era it came close to joining Canada as a Province, but that didn't actually happen until much later.

    The history of any one note like this can be complex.

  2. I believe the other commenter is incorrect. The Newfies didn't start using our buck until they joined up in '49. Before that they had their own Newfie Dollars.
