  2. The dude in that photo probably had a grandfather who could tell with vivid detail how they used those arrows and scalped alive New Mexico Gov. Charles Bent in 1847. What the govt. did to the Taos natives after the incident is similar to Nazi revenge. If you want to read a terrific history of the West, which is primarily a bio of Kit Carson, Bent's brother-n-law, check out Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides.

  3. Not only did they scalp him alive, they used a bowstring to do it.
    Bent's Fort by Lavender is an excellent history as well.
