And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Caucasian actors playing Mandarins. To be fair I've considered if a movie can be historically valid without any members of the protagonists ethnic group playing lead roles or adding one word of the written dialogue. It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, but I don't remember that the Opium trade being forced upon China was mentioned. Never the less, the movie is certainly entertaining. And I'd love to see it again. Ah! It's available on YouTube.
This movie was made when we called the city Peking. Then we had to learn to call it Beiping. Then we had to learn to call it Beijing. Maybe someone can explain this to me. Why has Shanghai always been Shanghai, Cairo has always been Cairo, and Tokyo has always been Tokyo for English speakers?, I'm gonna write Beijing in pencil from now on.
Somewhat accurate version of that time.
