  5. It's a spitting cobra, common in central Africa. The venom can blind in minutes, only copious amounts of milk can wash it out, water is no use.

  6. selsey.steve, that is complete nonsense.
    The prescribed treatment for envenomated eye is a 15-20 minute wash with whatever inert fluid is available; there is no real evidence that milk is better than water, just need to wash the venom out thoroughly. A visit to a Dr. for some anti-inflam. & antibiotic is recommended as well.
    The locals will lay a brother down & urinate in their eyes to wash it out, water being scarce at times.
    No evidence that works any better either.
    And eye injury is rare when basic 1st aid is rendered quickly.
