And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

London, U.K. police officer judging an ankle competition (1930)
I totally understand this competition. To me, one of the hallmarks of a pretty woman is the turn of her ankles. Thin, delicate ankles (like my wife's) are just a punctuation mark on a beautiful body. Fat ankles (or what I call "peasant ankles") is just a turn off IMHO.
Imagine the uproar if they had this today.
