And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Richard Petty was 'my' guy. I watched him race every chance I got. I remember that accident. It os a testimony to the design of the cars to absorb the energy, not the driver.
Bobby Allison guy here. Twice got to see him & Richard bang doors on short tracks. Near on 50-years ago, had opportunity to visit Petty Enterprises in Level Cross. Gents in the garage treated me like a family member. If I ever need surgery, hope the operating room is as clean and the doctors as skilled.
Richard petty was asked b we fire the race if he had plans to retire. He said he would when racing quit being fun.

If you have never watched this accident, look it up. Absolutely amazing that he wasn't seriously hurt, and amazing to watch the car disintegrate.
