REO made lawn mowers?

  1. My grandfather had a REO riding lawnmower. It was a 3 wheel design that had the motor on the front wheel powering it with a PTO driving the reels underneath. It was from the 50's or early 60's.

    1. You might say it's the Kirby vacuum of lawnmowers.

    2. An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress.

The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship.

The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there.

The engineer said, "I like both."

      "Both?" wondered the artist.

"Yeah," said the engineer. "If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the site and get some work done."

    1. Yep. First mower I remember. I'm pretty sure the engine was Briggs and Stratton.

  5. it's a little known fact that REO did make lawnmowers until Speedwagon was fully formed and they started writing hit tunes. the mower business sort of took a back seat to that.

  6. 1 1/2 horse power seems sort of small. Do you think a HP in the 50s was more powerful than today's?

    1. You must be thinking metric horsepower. Back in those days, it was real, 100% American Horsepower.

And my Dad had one, too!

  7. Back when ads were drawn by talented illustrators. All at once, they were replaced by photo's.

    1. Today with the new "Commercials Code", this ad would have had to be a black lesbian mowing and a couple of trannys in the car.

  9. We had one too in the 40's and 50's. Very well engineered and manufactured, lots of attention to detail. Pretty much the Rolls Royce of lawnmowers.
