And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Down in Joe's garage we didn't have no dope or LSD but a couple of quarts of beer... and I can't remember the rest. I think the guy was screwed on straight. Read some of his quotes.
It wasn't very large. There was just enough room to cram the drums in the corner over by the dodge. It was a 64 with a mashed up door. And a cheesy little amp with a sign on the front saying Fender Champ. And a second hand guitar. It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar. That's all I got from memory. No googling.
Read an interview with him in Guitar Player magazine years and years ago, back when I was still playing. He was talking about playing in 17th notes and such. That was one wild and crazy guy for sure.
Zappa was a composer and one of the greatest guitar players of his time. Weasels ripped my flesh album I still have it. Saw Mothers of Invention in concert twice. The people in the stands was as crazy as Zappa was. Great shows. Many favorites songs such as "My Guitar wants to Kill your Momma", "Cosmic Debris" "Montana" and many more! Man the early 70s was a BLAST!!!
One of my favourite all time musicians. Had the privilege of seeing him live at Knebworth (England). He was supposed to be headlining the gig but the Tubes went on last. My guess is that they played to and empty field.
Zappa once said, "Don't send your children to school. Give them a library card. Let them go somewhere they can learn something." Probably not the exact quote, but pretty close.

ReplyDeleteA great musician.
Died young, of prostate cancer. Men, get checked. It's treatable when detected early and the alternative is not nice.
