  1. Hello Mr. Copperhead! Seen too many of those guys walking in Ozark woods...Always kept my eyes peeled and gave them a wide berth, 'cause they're cantankerous.

    1. That's wood vine, 5 leaves. PI - '3 leaves, leave it be'.

  4. 'ginia creeper - if you're cutting it, the sap can irritate your skin

  5. I looked at that copperhead 18 times and wondered "Why is that Oyster Mushroom nestled among all that Turkey Tail?" I would have gotten bitten trying to pick it (in that still-life). On the other hand, I've spotted hundreds of snakes while deep in the woods. They seldom let you just step on them without some kind of warning or motion to the observant.

  6. NOT being able to see them quickly is what's always scared the hell out me about snakes. Compliments to those who can.

  7. Came within about 6 inches of stepping on a BIG Southwestern Diamondback north of Los Angeles. Got a snake premonition about 3 minutes before gazing down at my left foot. The snake was about 2 inches in diameter, and would have killed me just like the poor sap who was featured on "Venom ER" Same species, would have nailed me in the same calf.

  9. Interesting. One you spot him, you can't un-see him...
