And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Vought SB2U Vindicator is an American carrier-based dive bomber developed for the United States Navy in the 1930s, the first monoplane in this role.
A good read: A Dawn Like Thunder by Robert J. Mrazek, features accounts of Vindicator pilots that were very critical of the aircraft and thankful when it was replaced by the Dauntless.

ReplyDeleteYou were supposed to be able to tell how fast uou were going in the five by gauging how fast the canvas peeled off the fabric-covered wings.
