Vought SB2U Vindicator is an American carrier-based dive bomber developed for the United States Navy in the 1930s, the first monoplane in this role.

  2. Sadly Marines had to fly the obsolete "Wind Indicator" into combat from Midway and were predictably slaughtered.

    1. You were supposed to be able to tell how fast uou were going in the five by gauging how fast the canvas peeled off the fabric-covered wings.

  3. A good read: A Dawn Like Thunder by Robert J. Mrazek, features accounts of Vindicator pilots that were very critical of the aircraft and thankful when it was replaced by the Dauntless.
