“Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem.”
"I just passed a Jimmy and a White, I been a passin' everything in sight......6 days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight"...
The old rule when driving a truck with a Screaming Jimmy (Detroit) diesel was that when you get in the truck in the morning you put your hand in the jam and slam the door on it, so you can be good and pissed off all day. Drive it like you hate it. And don't forget your earplugs.
Late buddy of mine was a former trucker, did all his own work on his rigs. Kept a pair of old trucks like that in his garage. WWII veteran, had some stories. Every 4th and Veterans Day I'd go down and we'd swap stories and drink a beer or two. Miss the old guy.
Not very good access to the engine. But a very cool tractor, nonetheless!
How hard would it be to fix the exhaust to blow smoke rings?
They always said a Detroit is just like a teenage girl. They talk pretty in town, but won't put out in the country.
