And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I should have said they don't usually get big waves. Once in a while, though... like when Crete got hit and wiped out the Minoan civilization.
So, well, the place would well if the wall hit on the cliff side, as long as it didn't broach or go over the cliff wall. If down the throat of the cove, they're all dead, gone, washed away, become the new Minoans...
Beautiful coastal villages, which have been there for hundreds of years. Utterly charming. Don't go swimming, and make sure your seafood is thoroughly cooked. You can probably relax a little bit if you can verify that their sewage is properly treated. Speaking from experience.
Whenever I hear the term 'safe harbor" again, I will think of this place.

ReplyDeleteI still remember visiting a small clothing shop in Portofino. A Brioni polo shirt was 600 Euro, I put it back very carefully.
