I actually sat all the way down in Rick Mears winning car one time, with our 5yo son on my lap no less. It was a snug fit even before the son got dropped on my lap. You don't get on those things, you put em on - like a pair of britches. It was at the Indy500 track museum winter 1984.
I've driven a number of similar old school open wheel cars. They are an absolute blast. One that I really liked was an early Formula 5000, basically like the car above with a 5L Chevy V8 that made 500HP. The engine was not a fire breathing monster like Nascar engines are, but it was good, the car was light and the fun was epic.

ReplyDeleteA commute In a old 60s F-1 car would be a thrill
