  1. Yes these are very handy little gizmos for quick checks. I always follow up with a voltmeter though.

    2. these voltage detectors only detect a voltage above 90 volts AC and do not detect DC voltages. any AC above fifty volts will cross you skin barrier and kill you. any DC above sixty volts will cross the skin barrier and kill you. so. if your only going to find any AC voltage above ninety volts AC before you grab onto a hot circuit, and any AC voltage above fifty volts can kill you, what else would you call one of these nifty little sensors??? Oh, they're convenient as hell, but make sure your life insurance premium is already in the mail.
