The Bedwells delivered mail from Nevada City to Alleghany for years. After Sam retired his daughter Sue took over. They actually did favors for people on their route, which I'm sure today would be verboten by the postal service.

 

Allegheny is an old mining town way back in the hills.  Love this image.  And, it's a Dodge Mr. Bedwell was driving!
