  2. Way too many cars for the track. You can get away with that if running motorcycles, but even there, they have to be waved off in batches of 25 or so at one time. Sometimes that will be done with different classes, but that has a tendency to end up with radical closing speeds, and that speed differential can be a cause of collisions.

  3. I'm guessing 40-50's. My father raced stock cars in the Philly area about then. For those dirt tracks, if you didn't have the money for a racing differential, you would have the gears welded to make both tires turn together. Pre-Locker days. They sometimes broke under the stress of corering with good traction. That tended to leave you in a bad situation on the track. (got that story from mom)
