On the way back from dropping off Mrs. CW at work, and on our little rural street I see a fox, of all things, scampering down the lane. When I got too close for his comfort, he sprinted off across a field and paralleled the car for a short distance. That allowed me to time him at a seemingly effortless 20 miles an hour. He wasn't straining.
I checked, and I've still got the one chicken, who is now free range. Maybe not for long.
We saw a red fox cross our little country road on our way to town yesterday. It must have been the phase of the moon that brought them out! - lol
ReplyDeleteThat must be it. This fox was wary but not really all that worried about me and my car. Very used to people - kinda like those skunks, which are still showing up every night at dusk. Now, me and Mrs. CW are sitting out and waiting for them. Country entertainment. Critter TV.
DeleteThe roads are full of foxes and skunks that are "used to people". Haha.

Critters aren't just in the country. The bride and I were leaving AT&T Park in SF a couple of weeks and observed, at close range, a raccoon in one of the waist-high planters along Third Street. It was wary, but, even with the number of folks on the street, didn't run.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of critter sightings, including lions, is due to a loss of food, caused by fires.
ReplyDeleteThey are getting pushed.
Next thing you know the abominable snowman pops up at your next barbeque.
ReplyDeleteWe had a gray fox mom and 4 kits take up residence under the back porch. The feral cat population bottomed out. It was routine to watch her drag a rat out of the far shed into her den. Good spirits.
