A razor holder that I made this weekend out of a scrap of Marblewood I had laying around. Now, to decide what finish to use on it. That wood is super hard and dense, and really heavy. I had to trim the end off and I decided to use a dove tail saw for the job, because I wanted to do it carefully and right the first time. It took forever, and my hands ached from gripping the darned thing.
Boiled linseed oil.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAfter the oil dries I would use a quality wax to further protect the wood from water and fingerprints.

Excellent advice, thanks!
DeleteI would recommend Tung Oil, but you have to look around to find it. I think Rockler sells it - 100% pure and I like it much better than linseed for exotic dense woods. Linseed is gummy to my taste, OK for exterior woods like cedar. Now, most tung oils are like 90% petroleum distillate and 5% linseed and 5% tung oil, so you have to be fine-print selective.
ReplyDeleteThe wax idea is a really good one too, once your oil treatment dries (and this may take a while, a few days in hot sun will help).
ReplyDeleteI got all that hot sun you want this time of year. Thanks for the good advice.
DeleteI vote for Briwax (clear) Original Formula.
