Sundial Bridge on the Sacramento River in Redding, and the fires currently burning in the background.

Rather than spend billions on a bullet train that will probably never be useful, the state needs to completely re evaluate their fire prevention and fire fighting program.

The buildup of huge levels of fuel causes this, and nearly uncontrollable fires will naturally continue until a different approach is developed.

  1. California will never redo their system; they still think it "saves the earth."

  2. It's the bribes, Lebowski. Fighting fires isn't politically profitable. How would Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein and Maxine waters be able to afford the finer things in life if their main source of income was extinguished along with fires

    1. Right, bogsidebunny. There's no political kickback scheme in fire fighting. So they'll continue to burn.

  3. As long as the "no burns, no logging, no grazing" are in power the fuel loads from lack of control burns, logging, & grazing will continue to increase and so will devastating fires...

    1. The politicians here lose their minds over air pollution, but say nary a word when big fires like this blanked the entire state in smoke for weeks or months. Hypocrites.

  4. Now if CA politicians would think of increasing our water cachement, then we'd have more water to drink, more water for crops, and more water to fight fires; but instead, they're considering closing the Hetch Hetchy dam.

Yeah, that'll solve a lot of problems.

  5. CA is bankrupt, living on borrowed time. Business are leaving the state.
Services are overwhelmed, power grid insufficient, infrastructure is crumbling.

    The answer?
    "Bullet train."
    "Raise taxes."
    "And ban plastic straws!"

  6. How about imprisoning arsonists for more than 15 minutes at a time? Most of the California fires were deliberately set.
