And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

War wagon
With a modern motor and drivetrain, this could be a great personal transportation device.
With that battle wagon, you could install multiple gas tanks. In TAOTWAWKI you could drive for a couple months before they ran dry, or you found a way to tape into the local station's underground tanks.
I suppose you could upgrade the engine to a Chevy LS, but drive train? As long as it has a manual transmission, there is really no way to improve on that. Anything more recent is just weaker and less dependable. I suppose you could put in a 5 speed tranny with overdrive if you wanted to get a couple more MPG.

John, that is perfect for the purpose of this discussion. We will however need to invest in the "On board underwater breathing system for driver and passengers-$6,500.00." Oh yea, and the afore mentioned turret..
Even with the original motor and drive train it was very impressive -- technology born of experience in WW2 delivered to the civilian market.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but the original gear would probably equate to about five miles per gallon. You'd want a bit better in a TEOTWAWKI environment.
DeleteIn that environment, you're back to horse and pack mule anyway. And in 4L, my 07 FJ Cruiser (modified) doesn't get much better than 8.

DeleteIt would need to be armored...just saying. And I favor a turret - just because.
DeleteGetting close to Thunderdome. I wonder if I could convince Tina Turner to ride shotgun?
DeleteShe'd do so while singing, "You'd better be good to me."
