Developments like this make me nostalgic for the day when you could get in your car and drive without being bothered by the phone.

General Motors’ Chinese research and development division has come up with a new Android app that will allow people to scan license plates and send messages to the vehicle’s owner, regardless of whether the other driver has downloaded the app.
It’s called DiDi Plate, and aside from the privacy concerns (which, we know, don’t mean a lot in the People’s Republic), the potential for abuse here is huge. Drivers could be easily harassed, whether they deserve to be or not, while we can imagine a cottage advertising industry popping up, with people that simply scan plates and send messages to drivers on behalf of local businesses.
This just empowers jerks to harass women, helps intensify and prolong road rage, and gives the leviathan government one more way to get at you.  No thanks - not a good idea at all.

  1. No, not a good idea. And let me say this about that - I would be very unhappy if I received literally thousands of unwanted "junk mail" texts every time I got in my car and drove somewhere. It's not just the jerks on the road...it's the clutter of solicitations to buy whatever that would clog the system to the point of shutting it down.
