Richard Hammond drives his finished project car for the first time. Nice!

  1. I have restored a couple of cars over my lifetime. My current project is a 74 Stingray that is 80% complete and I have all of the parts. I would not jump on a 63+ year old British car with a Lucas electrical system and ignition that had the super rare 4 wheel disk brakes.

  2. I loved that show about cars with Richard and that other obnoxious bloke.

  3. I would rather have that Jag than any new two-seater. The engine sounds fantastic. I've just bought an '84 Mercedes 380SL that runs perfectly but needs a new canvas top and a little TLC to the paint.

    1. Where to you source old cars to fix up here in Soviet Canuckistan ? Auto trader or fakebook marketplace or .... ?

    2. Autotrader charges a lot for an ad, so you'll find fixer-uppers on kijiji.ca where the ads are free.
I don't think there is a kijiji site for the USA.

  4. Brakes were by Girling iirc, and that provided an edge in 1950; an unnamed writer said those "allowed the XJ to out-deep the competition in corners". And yes to the in-line 6!
That was glorious to watch and ride along.
I would pursue a similar project with a MKII, only time and money prevent it (same as the rest of my list!)

  5. This video serves to remind me how much I miss the old Top Gear program. Those guys were hilarious, in their quaint British way, and their insights into cars were informative, although I could rarely afford the things they chose to drive.

If I ever won the lottery, I wouldn't spread it around but there would be signs, and me suddenly driving a 1960s Jag or Ferrari or Bentley would be one of those signs.
