    1. It wouldn't matter, the standard military arm was a smoothbore musket. The accuracy was so poor that a Prussian army test revealed that at 100 yards 54% of shots missed a 30ft by 30ft target.

  2. Uniforms of the day were bright as so the commanders and troops could ID them in the fog of massive back powder smoke. Also, why the used Large Bright Flags and Drums for morale and command and control.

    Also, a unit with a reputation for being bad asses the appearance of tall guys wearing tall bearskin hats often shook up the lesser units.

  7. Two of my great-uncles were in the Royal Scots during WW1, one was a piper and therefore a stretcher bearer: thankfully they both came home.
